Welcome to Literary Laundry!
Literary Laundry is an online literary journal edited by devoted writers and ardent critics. We have established Literary Laundry in order to promote the literature that we crave: masterful writing that holds discourse with great literary and intellectual traditions while still engaging the complexities of our world today.
Many readers have abandoned contemporary literature, discouraged by the frequency with which they encounter work that proves either meaninglessly glib or disappointingly trite. We regard this trend as a problem and have created Literary Laundry in order to fix it.
Literary Laundry publishes an online, twice-yearly journal showcasing the best poetry, short stories, and one-act drama that contemporary writers have to offer. We also issue editorial reviews of recently published books and organize quarterly “showcases” of the most talented emerging writers we encounter. The capstone of our yearly work is the publication of a print retrospect for each online issue.
Along with each issue, Literary Laundry awards cash-prize "Awards of Distinction" to the best writing we encounter in each of our three genres. All works submitted to us will automatically be considered for awards. We also understand that great writing transcends age. Uniquely among literary journals, we are committed to promoting the work of undergraduate students both within creative writing departments and outside of them. All undergraduate works received by Literary Laundry are considered for cash prize "Undergraduate Awards" in addition to being considered for our "Awards of Distinction."
